Queensgate II Town Center

Queensgate II Town Center

Queensgate II was an ambitious 1970s "urban renewal" proposal for a new development in Cincinnati's West End neighborhood, combining arts, cultural, and higher educational facilities, governmental agencies, housing, shopping, a public plaza, and parking in one convenient location. Most of the proposed development was never built. Only the Crosley Telecommunications Center (home to Cincinnati Educational Television and Cincinnati Public Radio), the Town Center parking garage, and a few other structures were built and remain in use. The skywalks and public plaza were built but deteriorated for decades and were finally demolished in the 2000s and 2010s.

With the construction of the new FC Cincinnati stadium just to the north and the revitalization of Over-the-Rhine to the east, the future of the Town Center is uncertain. Cincinnati Public Radio has already announced their plan to build a new studio and move out of the Crosley Telecommunications Center. If Cincinnati Educational Television also moves, it's likely that the entire block would be demolished and redeveloped.

Ronny Salerno has written more about Queensgate II at his website and talked about it on Cincinnati Edition.

Bill Cappel shares more history of the project and his redevelopment ideas on his blog.
